I really like the idea of the gun being permanent but with very few bullets throughout the game. I also really like the idea of Rod having to avoid enemies for most of the game, it makes it feel more detective-esc, and if you think it would help the gameplay I'm down for it!
About the devolution style, don't worry about it, I get it. We can continue with this new style. It shouldn't be much harder to handle, it's a very small sprite still 😆
Let's work with the Baston sprite for now then. When we get a proper feel of what the sprite size should be, if you make a list, I can manage the animations needed for these early stages.
You'll send these prototypes to me via dropbox, right? And I'd have to open them in Godot?
Oh, and I just found this spritesheet I made last year for Rod in the devolution style. I just got the idea that it could be useful for this project.
As we are both very familiarized with the style maybe we can make the whole game with this artstyle, if it's not to late. What do you think?

That's a very good proposal. It reminds me of a companion of Rod who is a photgrapher for the local newspaper.
After thinking about it, though, I kinda don't mind Rod using a gun eventhough it goes against his full-written character. I think it would be cooler for the game if he uses a gun.
Do you have any preferences on this matter? Because I do like the innovative side of Stringer. I could honestly go both ways 😉

I really like the style of Elevator Action Returns but I can't see myself spriting that good 😀 Though I'd like to try and sprite without black outlines... We can make a few attempts and see what works best. I'm open to try anything really so we can go slow with this 😉

Creo que como todos aquí este juego lo descubrí en mi juventud, siendo solo un niño sin ninguna consola. Recuerdo que en las clases de computación, si terminábamos nuestra tarea rápido nos dejaban jugar juegos en la computadora. Con esto, yo y otros como 5 amigos más nos volvimos los mejores de la clase solo para poder terminar lo más rápido posible y jugar DBZ Devolution 😀
La pasamos increíble. Al ser tantos jugabamos siempre en el modo Tenkaichi Budokai y era lo mejor. Recuerdo la emoción y las risas. También cómo nos enojábamos si un amigo elegía a a Gogeta SS4 o Súper Buu (Encontrábamos muy roto en ese entonces que se pudiera regenerar y además tener acceso a ataques como los fantasmas kamikaze o el makkankosapo lol).
Y para ser honesto, como Dragon Ball Z Kai en ese entonces cubría solamente hasta la saga de Cell, y yo no me sabía los horarios para ver la serie continuamente, fue gracias a Devolution que pude vivir toda la historia de Dragon Ball. Historia que hoy por hoy me encanta demasiado y me ha inspirado a ser en gran parte la persona que soy. Devolution fue mi mayor introducción a esta legendaria e inmortal historia.
En el presente, poder colaborar en el juego es casi como un sueño de niño cumplido. Me apasiona mucho hacer sprites como hobby en mis tiempos libres, y lo mejor es que los puedo hacer de mis personajes favoritos sólo para poder ver como cobran vida en el juego. Lo mejor es ver a niños como lo era yo comentar sobre estos. Es un ciclo hermoso 🙂
No podría apreciar ni agradecer más el hecho de que hayas creado este juego, que como puedes ver, es demasiado importante para todos nosotros. Lograste contribuir a una parte muy importante de nuestras vidas: la infancia. Y puedes tener por seguro que lo sigues haciendo.
Espero de corazón que nunca te rindas con este juego. Es demasiado especial para miles y miles de personas. Quizá las cosas se ven mal ahora mismo con el juego. Con los fanáticos tóxicos y demandantes, y los que derechamente son estúpidas y malas personas, como Zsven. Pero ten por seguro que ellos solamente son una minoría ruidosa. Hay muchas personas allá afuera, que quizá sin expresarlo como nosotros ahora, disfrutan a más no poder de este juego. Juego que poco a poco está contribuyendo en darles una hermosa infancia, en especial a aquellos niños que como algunos de nosotros de pequeños no tienen los recursos para tener los juegos lujosos y oficiales.
Espero que las cosas mejoren, Txori. Esta es una tormenta de cosas, que debe ser horrible de sentir, pero una que tarde o temprano debe pasar. Aquí estaremos todos los jugadores y fanáticos de tu trabajo para brindarte el apoyo y fuerza que mereces. Un abrazo buen amigo 🙂

I've read it all and I'm fascinated with all of this. I'll be installing Godot right away so I can see what you're working with, though considering my knowledge, experiencie and lack of free time I can't see myself helping with the coding that much, but I'll try anyway. Godot seems friendly enough 😀
About the sprites, I can take care of those no problem. I'd like this little game to have a unique style of its own, but nothing to complictaed either. Maybe just a "Glorified Baston" that could look something like this:
Tell me what you think, I'm open to go to any artistic direction with this project to be honest.
I also have no problem with me animating the movements for each side. It'll take more time, but at least I have no rush with this project (as you might have seen 😀 )

On a side note, though we can leave this discussion for later on: The only thing that "troubles" me about this gameplay for Rod is that I wrote this character as a pacifist. Eventhough he carries a gun, he rarely uses it. Whenever he does he has huge internal conflict about it. Rod does not kill by any means, and this could cause problems if we want to keep the gameplay simple.
I was thinking about a few ways in which we can get over this, but for this project I can just look past this detail if it causes any trouble. I'm more into making a fun game rather than respect some thing I wrote 4 years ago 😀

Eventhough I'm not familiar with the Demon Slayer series I got very invested in this character. You also managed to make it so interesting and fun to play as with that moveset. It's a 10 out of 10 for me!

His super is a healing ability. It will work only if you got a teammate that have taken damage 😉
I'll talk from a very ignorant point of view of how the code behind the game works, but I think this is not the best idea.
I think it only makes sense that Ki attacks such as the Spirit Bomb, Makankosappo, Final Flash, Kienzan, etc. use Ki to be performed, and I really like how the more Ki you inject to it, the more damage it will do. It would be weird that the legendary spirit bomb would grow depending on how much you punched your opponent.
I also think that making these attacks be charged exclusively with the SP bar will make the game less fun. Charging the SP bar can get annoying if you want to have a couple of bars in your disposal, and is even worse to try and max it. I think it is perfect -and fun- that it only serves to determine wether you can perform and SP attack or not, and that then it is up to your Ki to determine how strong the attack is. Also by the time you have like 3 SP bars you opponent is likely already dead so I don't know how much would it be worth the effort to charge a SP attack to the max 😀
But the problems you listed are true as well, specially when it comes to the Rush attack. I think (And I hope is feasible) that we can limit this change to the Rush attack, and maybe the healing ability among other special that are not "convetional".
With this, attacks such as the giant Ki spheres and Ki waves (the ones I listed above) should keep working as they are now, while the Rush attacks and healings would have a fixed amount of damage/HP and cost one SP bar as they already do. (If you want to spice it up maybe it can do more damage the more SP bars you have stored, I'll let you decide that I like both options)
I think the upcoming Self-destruction rework and the Time-skip could work like this as well.

Oh right, we thought about Broly too but I completely forgot 18 could do the barrier as well. Though I think she uses it in some games.
And yeah, ideally the command should be something with the defense button (I guess Left/Right + Defense so it doesn't get mixed up with the transformation) but I thought you had problems programming that same command for the healing ability.
I'm thinking Attack + Defense like the old self destruction could work wonders too. What do you think?
Alongside the incredible addition that the healing ability is, I wanted to propose another "support" special move for the game. As the title says I'm talking about an special barrier. My prime examples of this move would be 17's Android barrier and Cocotte's barrier.
What would it add to the game?
You know how normal defense doesn't cancel Ki damage entirely? Even less when it comes to special attacks? This barrier would protect you completely from any kind of attack, at the cost of losing one bar from the "special meter". It's a good way to ensure you don't get hit by a devastating attack but with a great cost.
How would it work in the game?
I'm thinking it could be activated by pressing down + attack. I'm thinking of two ways this could work:
