After landing his Spit attack, the opponent is stuck for about 10 seconds, they break free when Dabura attacks them, but are stunned for a bit while you're attacking them, perhaps it would work well like that?

it does make more sense, it was just kinda jarring after playing Xenoverse 2 for a while
